Description

The Department of Science Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD) initiative to establish a South African Geodesy Working Group in South Africa will have this initial workshop for invited and interested parties. We anticipate a hybrid event with in-person attendance for invited guests and online access for other interested parties.
The scope of the workshop will focus on South Africa, with the DSTI and DLRRD collaborating with role players in the space of geodesy:
- Establishing a National Geodesy Working Group, Working Group Terms of Reference;
- Formalise South Africa’s role in global geodesy governance by signing the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) multilateral MoU;
- Develop a National Geodesy Coordination Framework;
- Secure long-term funding for geodetic infrastructure and human capacity development;
- And lead the establishment of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) in Africa.

This event has been assigned the following SAGC CPD Number and Points:
- CPD Number - GOV1058
- CPD Points - 2
